In the digital age it is anachronistic to deal with the data processing with the logic and the systems used so far. The mobile connectivity and the use of multiple device require the use of radically different computation models. It is very important today rely on context-aware systems that provide context information, such as the user’s position, his preferences, device capabilities and available resources.
We’re in a new era of automation, one focused on empowering individuals to embrace adaptability by matching the uniqueness of their patient/constituent/customer/etc. with a made-to-order personal interaction. The era of the adaptive organization is here, and context-aware computing will play a key role in its future.
According to Gartner: ”Context-aware computing (CAC) is a style of computing in which situational and environmental information about people, places and things is used to anticipate immediate needs and proactively offer enriched, situation-aware and usable content, functions and experiences.”
We’re beginning to see great value in technologies that use context to help us make better decisions – a field the industry refers to as context-aware computing. The ability to build and leverage context-enriched systems, by intercepting, ingesting and processing data from cloud, socials, mobile or sensors will give organizations, both operational efficiency and market differentiation, helping them to augment intelligence and make better decisions.
Three important aspects of context are: where you are; who you are with; and what resources are nearby. Although location is a primary capability, location-aware does not necessarily capture things of interest that are mobile or changing. Context-aware in contrast is used more generally to include nearby people, devices, lighting, noise level, network availability, and even the social situation, e.g., whether you are with your family or a friend from school. Information gets its meaning from its surroundings, whether that’s other related information, location, time of day, information source, and so forth.
